| March 2005 Nissan 5765 Dear Friend, Another Pesach is approaching and it is time to ask ourselves the question "Why is this night different from all other nights?" The Haggadah gives us four answers to this question. But this year we can also add a personal, Southern African answer. So when we "tell the story" of the Exodus from Egypt we can also talk with our families about our own "exodus" from our birth land, what wonderful lives we had then , what we left behind, and the freedom we now enjoy. It is also a time to remember who we left behind. Many of our relatives and friends and fellow Jews chose to stay in South Africa and are now residents in the Southern Africa's Jewish homes for the elderly, handicapped, mentally ill and the "children in need" . They are now dealing with the escalating security issues, maintenance costs and continued budget cuts, which are having devastating effects on the residents being able to live a life filled with dignity and be provided with all the services they deserve. YES, your donation towards the $250,000 that ChaiSouthAfrica distributed last year made a difference in the lives of the many residents we care for at the homes. You helped: subsidize many residents whose R600 pension covers less than 15% of the fees, build a room en suite for family members to stay in for a few days when visiting dying parents, refurbished the frail care center, pay for Purim festivities,, pay for sending 12 residents on a weekend away from the home, purchase of a much needed "combi" .. and the list goes on. BUT the needs remain and are greater than ever. At Passover, it is a mitzvah to invite a stranger to your Seder. This year, we ask you to invite these residents into your hearts. By making a tax deductible donation to ChaiSouthAfrica. YOUR donation will be covering the cost of Pesach food, buying new AED defibrillators with ECG, help repair the leaking roof, help pay to replace the "carpet squares" of yesteryear with good carpeting, help buy more hospital beds, a new freezer, motorized wheelchairs, shower trolleys, resident subsidies etc etc. These essentials have to be provided. YOUR donation can make a difference. So at this year's Seder, when the question is asked "Why is this night different from all other nights?", in your heart you will know that it is different because you welcomed a resident into your heart and your meaningful gift lifted the spirits of someone in need. Please complete the form below or visit our website at www.chaisouthafrica.com. You can also make use of our tribute program by making a donation in honor or memory of someone special or your Seder hosts. Chag Pesach Kasher to you and your family. ChaiSouthAfrica Committee ( see list on www.chaisouthafrica.com ) and all the residents of the homes If you live in South Africa PLEASE support your own campaigns and PLEASE forward this email to all your family and friends who live overseas. Our success in helping provide for the residents in the homes depends on appealing to as many former Southern Africans as possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Donation form: We offer 3 options for you to make your donation.
